Patriot Park

Reidsville's Patriot Park will be educational public art and an attraction for all ages. It is a perfect destination for school field and library trips, a day out with the family, an opportunity to appreciate our nation’s history and another great addition to Downtown Reidsville. Patriot Park is the next step in Project D.R.E.A.M by Reidsville Downtown Corporation. Its location, beside the Reidsville Public Library, provides high visibility to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic as well as room for future expansion of the library. It will be a wonderful community gathering place for all to enjoy.

The park will house four documents consisting of three original Charters of Freedom: the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, plus a Civil Rights Document. The City is hoping to feature Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s March on Washington “I Have A Dream” speech and has applied for permission to showcase this as the fourth document. The base design for the park will be similar to settings completed by Foundation Forward, Inc., an educational non-profit from Valdese, NC. This company has placed several settings in North Carolina and Reidsville plans to partner with them for the project. The base budget for the project is $90,000, which will be provided by a fundraising campaign as needed to complete the project. Excess funds will fund the cost of additional lights for the park. The Reidsville Community’s goal is to have Patriot Park constructed as early as possible in 2021.

Community Benefit
Not everyone can get to our nation’s capital to see the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. “It took me over 60 years to get to the National Archives in Washington, D.C. to see our founding documents,” Foundation Forward Founder Vance Patterson explained. “Even though it’s free and open to the public, most people will never see and experience these documents in a proper setting.” Patriot Park will serve as a basis on which to teach and preserve American history surrounding the time of our country’s founding. Every generation can learn about government and how it is meant to serve and protect us.
