Rec Dept. Gymnasium to be closed for floor upgrade

The Reidsville Parks and Recreation Gym at 201 North Washington Avenue will be closed beginning Monday, April 15, 2024, for renovations to the gymnasium floor.

The closure is expected to continue through May 15th.

Earlier in the year the City of Reidsville was fortunate to receive a State Budget appropriation of $300,000 to make some recreational facility improvements, thanks to the efforts of Senator Phil Berger Sr. and Representative Reece Pyrtle. Part of that money, $135,000, was designated to install a new floor at the Rec gym. During the month that the gymnasium will be closed, the company Floor Action Inc. will be taking out the existing maple hardwood flooring and putting down new maple hardwood.

“The gym has been a staple in the local community for many years,” said the City’s Assistant City Manager of Community Services Haywood Cloud Jr. “The gym is extremely popular among all of our basketball leagues and other programming areas. We are very excited about these upgrades and will be ready to welcome our residents back when they are completed.”

The rest of the State allocation will go towards refurbishing some of the tennis courts and creating new pickleball courts, both of which are located at Jaycee Ballpark.
