- Loose Leaf Collection Starts the First Week of November
Annual curbside loose leaf pickup begins the first week of November and ends the first full week of January. Please observe the following rules: · Leaves must be clear of brush, sticks and other waste. · Place loose leaves at the curb or edge of pavement (not in the roadway) · Place leaves away from storm drains or parked cars. · Leaves should be placed for pick up by 7:00am on your scheduled day. · All areas will be serviced weekly (on the same day of the week as in the past years). · The schedule could vary over the season based on volume. After loose leaf collection ends, you must bag your leaves to be collected by the Sanitation Department.
- Farmers Market only on Saturdays through Oct. 25
Due to vendor participation, the Market will not be open on Thursdays for the remainder of the season. The Market will be open on Saturday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 25 but not on October 18 due to the FAB Festival. The season ends on October 25th.
- Monday spill releases small amount of sewer into creek
On Monday, September 29, 2025, the City of Reidsville Public Works Department responded to a sewer spill off of Freeway Drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. Public Works crews responded to the spill within five minutes. The spill was mitigated within an hour. The spill was caused by a grease blockage in the collection line. The resulting sewer spill released an estimated 350 gallons of untreated sewer but only about 25 gallons made it into Wolf Island Creek, according to Public Works officials. - Williams hired as Reidsville's new Building Code Admin
Charles “Chuck” Williams returned to the City of Reidsville as its new Building Code Administrator on Monday, September 15, 2025. Williams, who has been working with Rockingham County for the past two years as Deputy Chief Building Inspector, previously served as a Codes Inspector I in Reidsville from 2021-2023. Prior to that, he worked in the private sector. As Building Code Administrator, Williams will supervise the City’s building inspectors and ensure compliance with North Carolina building codes as well as local City ordinances. Among his duties will be inspections and performing plan reviews. “It’s a privilege to serve the City of Reidsville as Building Code Administrator,” Williams said. “As someone who cares deeply about the safety and future of our community, I’m excited to contribute to the City’s growth in a meaningful way. I look forward to building strong relationships with residents, contractors, and City staff as we work together to make Reidsville an even better place to live.” He will report to Josh Farmer, Assistant City Manager of Public Safety/Fire Chief. Inspections was moved under Farmer earlier this year. “The Building Code Administrator is a vital position in the City of Reidsville,” said Farmer. “Mr. Williams brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in building code enforcement. He is well-equipped to lead the building inspections division by working with developers, contractors, and community members to support all facets of residential and commercial growth in our City.” Williams currently holds a Standard Level 3 Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing inspector certification, and a Level 3 Probationary Building inspector certification. He is also a licensed electrical and plumbing contractor, a licensed home inspector and is in the process of obtaining an H1, H2, H3 mechanical contracting license. Williams is currently going through the process to become a code educator at Rockingham Community College so that he can help strengthen the inspection industry and give back to the local community. He said he hopes to empower future inspectors and promote a culture of safety, integrity and service.
- Project DREAM: Fire Hydrants
The Reidsville Downtown Corporation (RDC) invites artists to submit designs for painting fire hydrants in downtown Reidsville. The RDC has identified 15 hydrants for this project (more can be added if the response demands). Artists must submit a color design for review by the RDC. The RDC will host a one-day Paint Party for artists to paint their hydrants on SEPTEMBER 6, 2025 and the local community and media will be invited. Artists who cannot attend the Paint Party must complete their hydrant by 2 weeks after the painting party. Selected artists will be added to the list of approved artists for future DREAM projects. FIRE HYDRANT ART PROJECT DETAILS: The design should be appropriate for a public space. What is prohibited on the hydrants? § Changing the color of the fire hydrant “bonnets” (blue, green or red). The selection committee will attempt to match designs with the bonnet color that will work best with the design. § Glued or attached objects. § Camouflage or designs that significantly reduce hydrant visibility . § Black paint covering more than 20% of the overall hydrant . § Endorsement of an individual or business. § Inappropriate or offensive words or imagery. § Anything which inhibits the function of the hydrant. Potential design themes include: § Designs that reflect Reidsville’s history; § Designs inspired by the work of famous artists; § Designs with a whimsical or humorous twist that will make viewers smile; § Context-sensitive designs that would uniquely connect a particular fire hydrant with its immediate surroundings; § Colorful, abstract designs. Oil-based paint will be used on the hydrants (painting supplies will be provided). All proposed designs must be submitted for approval during this period. The RDC and City of Reidsville will base their decision to approve applications for painting on creativity, originality, imagination, and appropriateness. Selected artists will be required to sign project rules, Waiver, Hold Harmless and Indemnity Agreement, and a publicity release. - Lightning Strike Results In Sewer Spill Tuesday Night
On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the City of Reidsville Public Works Department responded to a sewer spill in the vicinity of Winstead Street. A lightning strike hit the City’s Winstead Pumping Station around 6 p.m., damaging the generator transfer switch and central panel. The resulting sewer spill released an estimated 4,200 gallons of untreated sewer into Lick Fork Creek. Once notified, Public Works crews responded to the call within 30 minutes.
